in the midst of my long and loud lament about all the great stxi fic that either got deleted or locked, sam asked if there were any fics she could read that were still around. and! yeah! there are!!! there’s so much stuff!!!

so if you’re new to the fandom or to the pairing here is an itty-bitty sampling of the fics that have been aging in my bookmarks like fine wine. i did all the work in 2009 so that now u can just sit back and enjoy sunshiney determined starship captains and the cantankerous misanthropic georgian doctors who reluctantly love them (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧

hurry, hurry (you put my head in such a flurry, flurry) [R] by canis_takahari - gaila wants to have a picnic with nyota, and she decides to invite some friends along. (i feel weird starting with this one since it’s actually largely uhura/gaila but!! it has picnics and weed and dumb boys who are dancing around something and beautiful ladies who kiss each other so wait no i don’t actually feel that weird just read this fic)

fashioned with hands, and heart and song [PG-13] by re_white - jim builds a heartthing behind the red door in his mind. (wow this fic man do you ever juST)

Leonard McCoy, Cheater of Destinies [NC-17] by ayalesca - mccoy is given three chances to see the infinite destinies that he might have lived. (ouCH that hurt. warnings for character death and gore and joanna being fridged)

these old walkin’ blues [PG-13] by ignipes - five times mccoy proved he had a heart of gold. (oops this is actually just this side of gen but idec because i have McCoy Priorities and!!! wow!! warning for physician-assisted suicide)

These Kids, They Lost Their Graces [NC-17] by affectingly - jim looks for answers. (lol at my terrible one sentence summary but no this is a great fic, fandom classic, must read, etc etc)

The Hard Sell [R] by exiled_mind - bones needs some convincing, so jim makes a list. (mostly silly and light-hearted but sometimes that’s the kind of fic u need, dig?)

five times someone tells jim kirk they love him, and one time they don’t [R] by acteamide - nothing good ever comes of people loving jim kirk. (ouCH???? noO????)

Borrowing Trouble [Mature] by savoytruffle - spock prime makes a visit to the enterprise and drops a bomb that leaves jim… rattled. (i like this fic a lot idk. it’s not perfect - like i think the text-log dialogue takes away from the story - but the whole concept is rill amusing 2 me and the jim + uhura stuff makes me smile a bunch so!!! yeah!!!)

Fade [NC-17] by canis_takahari - mccoy’s been an agent for a long time, and a young, cocky, obnoxious new partner is exactly what he doesn’t need, dammit. (i just stole the author’s summary for this one because it’s perf. this fic tho i s2g i love dumb AUs so much and this is such a good one like??? ugh???? jim wants to ingratiate himself with everyone he meets but bones is sullen and world-weary and doesnt wanna be bothered but they have to work together because they’re partners!! and eventually they fall in love??? be still my heart)

Be Safe [PG-13] by rubynye - jim goes to see bones before his mission to the narada. (just a lil stxi gap filler but it’s sweet and nice so here it is)

Every Mountain and Hill Shall Be Made Low [NC-17] by thalialunacy - bones is given a surprise gift by a space anomaly, and it makes him privy to… more information than he ever wanted to know. (another fandom classic. this shows up on every k/b rec list, so here it is!!!)

Nomenclature [R] by inksheddings - what’s in a name? (this is short, but there’s a line in it that kills me dead so i had to include it)

When The Game Ends, We’ll Sing Again [R] by jlh - four young men meet as harvard freshmen in 1959 (historical college AU!!! i love this!!! also feat. ultra-rare janice/christine which wow i’m so here for)

Cowboys Lost at Sea [NC-17] by ayalesca - “Jim and McCoy are trapped, together and alone, in a strange world made up of their memories and desires. In a world where almost anything they want comes into existence, there is no hiding from their desires, each other, or themselves.” (uh ouch??? no???? really sweet and sad like yeah you’ll cry you’ll definitely cry)

the green grass and blue southern sky [R] by eonism - bones takes jim home to georgia, where there are still lessons to be learned. (dad!mccoy is one of my favorite things obvi and jim tries so hard and joanna is the cutest so OUCH)

A Prophet in His Own Country [NC-17] by lindmere - i tried make a short summary but then i couldn’t do it because this fic is too good for whatever bullshit i was gonna write. just really, really well-written. really well-written. starts and ends with great spock POV, and everything in between is perf. plus there’s an awesome lady admiral OC, so yeah. yeah!!!!

Three Things [PG-13] by affectingly - “Jim knows three things. Well, actually, Jim knows lots and lots of things… More accurately, [he] knows three things about Leonard McCoy.” (:33333333333)
